Beautiful and merciless
Nine Things About the Movie "Fury" (USA, 2014)

1. One of the best movies of the year, this is a film that lives up to it’s name. It is a bitter, gorgeous, violent, post-patriotic, post-moral examination of war.

2. Set in Germany during the last month of WWII, it’s about a group of five men and their Sherman tank. A rookie typist is randomly selected to join the crew when one of the five is killed. He is a gentle and religious man, and the movie follows him as the war warps and destroys everything he has believed about the world and about himself.

3. I’ve never seen a war movie focused on tank divisions before, so the battle scenes are not the typical “run up the hill and shoot the bad guy” scenarios we are used to. The fighting is chaotic, suspenseful, and yes, furious.

4. Between the war scenes are battles of a different sort, as each member of the crew tries to maintain their sanity, if not their...
Closest to the Reality of Horror more than any other WWII film that I have seen
FURY is incredible. This film that brings WWII closest to the reality of horror more than any other film that I have seen. There is no glory here, simply a sense of despair and imminent death in more horrible ways that can be imagined. You don't live, you don't survive, you just exist in a war. That is what kept going through my mind. FURY is an experience. I kept having flashbacks of my friend who served in the 1st Infantry division in WWII from Casablanca all the way through to Czechoslovakia. We spent many coffee breaks together and he told me many things he saw and witnessed. He told me how he felt and how others felt and acted. I saw a lot of what he said about war in FURY. I cannot explain it, but this movie hit home. I just saw it at the theater and wanted to write about it. There is one scene in the film that is just so realistic, and that is when the replacement who has only had 8 weeks of training is assigned to Brad Pitt's crew. He has a meltdown in the tank and the words...
This TIGER was real and the 88mm.....devastating..!
After just seeing the film opening day in theaters I am already anxious to get the BluRay DVD. The movie was gut wrenching and excellent. After more than 50 years of being a WWII Historian with emphasis on Armor, someone has finally made "The Tank Movie" of all time. Also, the film goes down in history for having the first REAL German Tiger 1 ever seen live in film history. The Tiger 131 can be seen all over YouTube at the Bovington Tank Museums Tank Fest. Movie theaters do play the sound painfully loud and that only made the experience more gut wrenching. To have the new recliner seats in theaters today literally vibrating from the concussions certainly didn't help. I think what makes it worse for an Armor buff and WWII enthusiast is knowing the details and weapons capabilities of that period. Just hearing the word Panzerfaust makes one cringe. They certainly portrayed the statistics right in needing 4 - 5 Shermans to overwhelm one Tiger. I also have a new found...

Review :
Brilliant Film, Bad Blu-Ray, Wait For A Special Edition
To repeat, this 3 star review is a review of the Blu-ray, not the film, which is brilliant in case you haven't seen it.

The distributor of this film has decided to hold back two separate versions of Fury Road, promised by director Miller, to be included here and confirmed by him as having been completed in time for this release, because they want more of our money. The plan is to hold back these versions, including the increasingly popular Black and White version, which is spectacular, for inclusion on a later release of this film. The second or third edition of this film will be one of Warner's ever expanding line-up of complete releases that only come out after the company has made endless money on an initial, pathetic offering with missing features and exclusions galore.

This film is glorious, make no mistake, but this release is shameful. If you love Fury Road and can't wait to see it again, I don't blame you for having to run out and buy it, but, if you can...
I don't get why critics are convinced this has no story
It is an interesting and, at first discombobulating choice to tell the story without much in the way of exposition. But what exactly did you need to know that you didn't?

Important information:
1) A warlord named Joe keeps hundreds of people as slaves.
2) One of his deputies decides to escape with some of those slaves.
3) If they're caught, the slaves will be raped, the deputy will be tortured, and everything will end badly for everyone we care about.
4) They need to not get caught.

That's enough movie for you, right? The stakes are high if you have any imagination, because every single visual tells you just how bad Furiosa et al will catch it if Joe gets his hands on them again. The effects are superb-- all practical-- and the pacing keeps your attention. Sometimes the sudden dialogue bursts are jarring, but the nonverbal acting from just about everyone is on point.

All of the above is what makes Fury Road a good action movie...
Exquisitely Chaotic and Brutal
The Mad Max series is finally enjoying a long awaited (30 years!) return to form (or is it?). Fury Road brings our titular hero back into the spotlight where he deserves to be. This time around Mel Gibson has been replaced with fan favorite actor Tom Hardy (Inception, Warrior, The Dark Knight Rises). Not only was Hardy a perfect cast from the aesthetic standpoint (looks very much like a younger Mel Gibson in the movie) but the way he plays the character makes it feel like he's been doing it forever.

The supporting cast was anything but lost in this one. In fact many people will say they stole the show (mostly because of Hardy's more limited role). Theron turns in an excellent performance as the Imperator Furiosa and raises the bar of the female hero almost to the levels of Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley from the Alien movies. Nicholas Hoult (Google him) plays someone that hardly resembles him or anything else he's done and does a great job making you feel conflicted about...
