Dark Knight, The (Dbl BD)

The follow-up to Batman Begins, THE DARK KNIGHT reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who reprises the role of BATMAN /BRUCE WAYNE in his continuing war on crime. With the help of LT. JIM GORDON and District Attorney HARVEY DENT,BATMAN sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves effective, but soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as THE JOKER, who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces BATMAN closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante. Heath Ledger stars as archvillain THE JOKER, and Aaron Eckhart plays Dent. Maggie Gyllenhaal joins the cast as RACHEL DAWES. Returning from Batman Begins are Gary Oldman as Gordon, Michael Caine as Alfred and Morgan Freeman as LUCIUS FOX.

]]>The Dark Knight arrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralyzed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne.

In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director-cowriter Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his critically acclaimed Batman Begins with an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies like Spider-Man 2 and Iron Man because of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--The Dark Knight is a film for the ages. --David Horiuchi

On the Blu-ray disc
The Dark Knight on Blu-ray is a great home-theater showoff disc. The detail and colors are tremendous in both dark and bright scenes (the Gotham General scene is a great example of the latter), and the punishing Dolby TrueHD soundtrack makes the house rattle. (After giving us only Dolby 5.1 in a number of big Blu-ray releases this fall, Warner came through with Dolby TrueHD on this one.) One of the most interesting elements of The Dark Knight was how certain scenes were shot in IMAX, and if you saw the movie in an IMAX theater the film's aspect ratio would suddenly change from standard 2.40:1 to a thrilling 1.43:1 that filled the screen six stories high. For the Blu-ray disc, director Christopher Nolan has somewhat re-created this experience by shifting his film from 2.40:1 aspect ratio (through most of the film) to 1.78:1 in the IMAX scenes. While the effect isn't as dramatic as it was in theaters, it's still an eye-catching experience to be watching the film on a widescreen TV with black bars at the top and bottom, then seeing the 1.78:1 scenes completely fill the screen. The main bonus feature on disc 1 is "Gotham Uncovered: The Creation of a Scene," which is 81 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage about the IMAX scenes, the Bat suit, Gotham Central, and others. You can watch the film and access these featurettes when the icon pops up, or you can simply watch them from the main menu. A welcome and unusual feature is that in addition to English, French, and Spanish audio and subtitles, there's an audio-described option that allows the sight-impaired to experience the film as well.

Disc 2 has two 45-minute documentaries on Bat-gadgets and on the psychology of Batman, both in high definition. They combine movie clips, talking heads, and comic-book panels, but aren't the kind of thing one needs to watch twice. More engaging are six eight-minute segments of Gotham Central, a faux-news program that gives some background to events in the movie, plus a variety of trailers, poster art, and more. The BD-Live component on disc 1 is more interesting than on some earlier Blu-ray discs, which could be simply a matter of the content starting to catch up with the technology. There are three new picture-in-picture commentaries, by Jerry Robinson (creator of the Joker), DC Comics president Paul Levitz, and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.--he's a Batman fan who's made some movie and TV cameos), plus you can record your own commentary and upload it for others to watch. There are also three new featurettes ("Sound of the Batpod," "Harvey Dent's Theme," and "Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard") and two motion comics ("Mad Love," featuring Harley Quinn, and "The Shadow of Ra's Al Ghul"). No longer available is the digital copy of the film (compatible with iTunes and Windows Media, standard definition, download code expires 12/9/09). --David Horiuchi

Review :
Great Film - Buy the Single Disc Version!
What has been said about the Dark Knight cannot be elaborated on - so I won't. The film is muscling its way into my #1 favorite comic movie adaptation of all time.

The reason for my review is in hopes of saving you some money. This double disc Special Edition doesn't deliver the price you pay for it. There isn't even deleted scenes!!! I would save your very hard earned dollars and buy the single disc version and wait for the inevitable ULTIMATE re-release that will come later on down the road.

But nonetheless, a great film - you will not be dissapointed; I just wish the studio would have given a better Special Edition release than what we have here. So enjoy!

Batman channels Plato's Republic
First of all, this is a GREAT film, not just a great Batman film.

Others have compared Christopher Nolan's two Batman films to the Tim Burton Batman films, so I won't repeat their observations. Let me simply say that everything about this movie, from the script to the casting to the CGI to the acting and ultimately the directing is superb.

Now to Plato. The meta-message of The Dark Knight is a meditation on the nature of good and evil, the veneer of civilization, the virtues of principle and the necessity and the danger of bending principle in emergencies, the differences between evil for gain or power and evil for mere destruction and chaos, and the tension between public duty and private loyalty. Finally there is the question of the place for facts and the place for "sacred" myth.

(Caution: this review refers to specific scenes and characters.)

The mafia in Gotham is evil for gain and power. They want money and they want influence...
The Dark Masterpiece Surpasses the Hype
Christopher Nolan has a vision. And whether you agree with it or not, he undeniably completes it in "The Dark Knight"--a vicious, engrossing, overwhelming, intelligent event- film that re-defines 'comic-book-flicks'. In Nolan's grim, dark-depiction of Gotham-City (the crime-ridden hell protected by legendary superhero Batman), the director strives to make everything real (something he began in the well-received "Batman Begins"). He makes it plausible, possible. And yet there's more to it: just as 'Begins' was a dissection of myth, the nature of symbols and heroes, 'Knight' is the escalation of that notion. It's a biblical- confrontation of 'good-and-evil', yet as 'good-and-evil' really exist: a conflict of ideals, something that can't be purely-defined but that is relative to a viewpoint. In Nolan's world, the line of villainy and heroism isn't crossed... it's non-existent. The bad-guys don't see themselves as bad-guys, and as such something so unnervingly-real comes across it might...

Supernatural: The Complete Eighth Season (DVD)

Over the years, with the help of fallen-angel Castiel, and the King of Hell, Crowley, the Winchesters have straddled the line between good and evil. Last season, the boys encountered their worst enemy yet, Leviathan, a seemingly unkillable foe that, in the end, left Dean and Castiel stranded in Purgatory and Sam alone. Although Castiel is nowhere to be found, Dean manages a seemingly impossible escape from Purgatory – but not alone. He's returned with a mysterious comrade-in-arms whose reason for escape is more than Dean bargained for. Meanwhile, Sam finds himself reconciling the life he rediscovered with Dean's sudden reappearance. As the boys struggle with their unexpected reunion, they make a shocking discovery that could lead them on a deeply personal mission to settle old scores.

Review :
Benny Finally Enters the Story
Benny, the vampire that Dean escaped Purgatory with finally re-enters the story after being introduced in the first episode. Benny is on the track of vengeance and is hunting his maker when he takes on too many other vampires in a fight. He calls Dean for aid and assistance and as Dean is both loyal to Benny and things are still tense between Sam and Dean, he goes to Benny's assistance giving Sam the minimum of explanation.

What follows is a story of cunning, revenge, love and loss with very little redemption - and it is an excellent story indeed. I am so impressed with the new season of Supernatural. I read recently that the creators are hoping to tell their story over ten seasons and if the show continues at this new level of quality I will be watching with renewed passion. Supernatural is a real winner this season. Catch up on all the episodes.

A final note, the actor who plays Benny plays him with a laconic, creepy, sexual appeal and it really adds to the...
Great Set Up to the Season and Reset to the Series
Review contains light spoilers.

After some of the missteps of the last couple of season of Supernatural, I had my worries about what a new season would bring, but if the rest of Season 8 lives up to the premier, my worries will have been in vain. I loved the opening and the set-up of the season long arcs and the introduction of new characters.

When we left Sam and Dean at the end of Season 7, Dean was in Purgatory and Cas had just disappeared, Kevin, the new prophet had been kidnapped by the always delightful Crowley, Bobby's soul had been set free in death and Sam was left all alone to find Dean, save Kevin and fight the Leviathons. It turns out that Sam did none of those things, a character choice that is sure to be controversial but that has some roots in past behavior and plots. Dean it seems may have been a very bad boy in Purgatory, a place he nicknamed Pure, no doubt because of the purity of the intent to survive that is necessary. It seems that in...
Oh, you bastards
Okay, I started watching this show because it was about two guys, in a car, killing the kinds of monsters that made me unable to watch horror films. And it was good, and therapeutic, because at the end of each episode, the scary-scary things were DEAD.

Then they brought a certain seraph into the cast and I was hook-line-and-sinkered. You might say my interest was raised from Perdition too.

Season 4: angsty, angel-y goodness.
Season 5: just keeps getting better
Season 6: not sure where they're going with this, but still worth the ride
Season 7: remembering that the series is good for many more reasons than just angels and demons.

And then I was stuck and had to buy Season 8. So let's talk about that choice:

Does Season 8 drag in places? Yes.
Does it have stupid crap in it? Yes.
Does it have moments that make me punch the air at the WIN involved? Absolutely.
Is it so meta in spots that it hurts? You bet.

The prize: ending the Apocalypse. The price: Sam’s life. Season 5’s horrific finale left Dean alone, as Sam descended into Hell. Now a different man, Dean vows to stop hunting and devote himself to building a family with Lisa and her son Ben. Then, mysteriously, Sam reappears, drawing Dean back into the old life. But Sam’s a different man too. He’s returned without his soul. How the Winchesters confront this greatest challenge yet to their powerful bond is the troubled heart – and soul – of the profound and thrilling 5-Disc, 22-Episode Season 6. As the brothers struggle to reunite, they must also battle deadly supernatural forces. Demons. Angels. Vampires. Shapeshifters. And a terrifying new foe called the Mother of All. Season six of the fantasy-horror-drama series Supernatural continues its almost perverse streak of setting the bar at the end of each season so impossibly high that its successor could never surpass the roadblocks in its path, only to leap over them with the same amount of aplomb, wit, and complexity the program has shown throughout its network run. When audiences last saw the Winchester brothers at the end of season five, Dean (Jensen Ackles) had abandoned hunting demons in favor of family life, while Sam (Jared Padalecki) had apparently lost his battle with Lucifer in the season finale. But as season six reveals, Sam is alive and well, though missing a soul, which makes his subsequent hunts with a reluctant Dean merciless and focused on a plan not entirely understood by either man. As the brothers grapple with shape-shifting infants ("Two and a Half Men"), vampires (the unfortunately titled "Live Free or TwiHard"), leprechauns (Robert Picardo in "Clap Your Hands If You Believe…"), horror icon H.P. Lovecraft ("Let It Bleed"), and a variety of homegrown monstrosities, they discover that Sam's soul is in the possession of the demon Crowley (Mark Sheppard), who is using it to manipulate Sam into locating the souls of Purgatory, which could turn the tide of a civil war raging in Heaven towards Crowley and renegade angel Castiel (Misha Collins). The Winchesters must then stop the infernal duo's scheme before an even greater apocalypse can occur. With such high stakes and grim fates hanging in the balance, it's a wonder that Supernatural can spare a moment for its trademark quirky humor, but such episodes as "The French Mistake," where the brothers arrive in an alternate reality where they assume the identity of Ackles and Padalecki, or the aforementioned "Two and a Half Men," display the producers' knack for combining the lighthearted with the show's trademark depth and darkness. Most impressively, the season sets up Supernatural for a seventh go-round that promises--yet again--to top its predecessors.

Extras are again substantive and plentiful, with "Jensen Ackles: A Director's Journey" focusing on the actor's debut as helmer on "Weekend at Bobby's," perhaps the most interesting of the lot, with plenty of behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with cast and crew. Somewhat weightier in tone and content is "Soul Chasers: Supernatural and the Quest for the Soul," which explores the concept of the soul from religious and philosophical perspectives. Writers and executive producers Sara Gamble, Ben Edlund, and Bob Singer are featured on commentary tracks for "Clap Your Hands" and "The French Mistake," while the latter is covered in collections of alternate takes and outtakes and a stand-alone blooper reel. Two episodes of Warner Bros. Japan's Supernatural: The Anime series, both featuring Padalecki and Ackles as the voices of Sam and Dean, bring the set to a satisfying conclusion. --Paul Gaita

Review :
Batman flies high in excellent BEGINS
Since his first dramatic appearance in Detective Comics in 1939, Batman has grown to become a pop-culture icon. From movie serials in the 40's, to a classic campy TV show in the 60's, to a solid animated series in the 90's, fans have thrilled to the super heroics of this unique character. However, as a film franchise, he has brought results that were somewhat less than impressive creatively. While the Tim Burton directed films, BATMAN and BATMAN RETURNS were stylish and dark, they also suffered from plot holes you could drive a Batmobile through. Then Joel Schumacher introduced a Day-Glo sensibility to the Dark Knight in BATMAN FOREVER, before drowning the character in ludicrous costumes (a Bat suit with nipples???), pun-filled foes, and whiney sidekicks in the lousy BATMAN & ROBIN. By then, Batman as cinematic property had become a laughingstock. Fortunately, indie film director Christopher Nolan reinvigorates the franchise in glorious form in BATMAN BEGINS, a reboot of the...
Batman is back! **Updated review to BluRay edition**
After years of not having a Batman film and mostly due to the franchise hitting bottom thanks to Joel Schumacher's disastrous "Batman forever" and "Batman and Robin", Christopher Nolan present us his version of the character with an impressive all star cast anda story brilliantly written by David S. Goyer.

The film

There were high expectations for this film before its release as if would it be as good as Burton's films, the truth is, there are no points to compare, Nolan and Burton visions are quite different from each other, but both respect the origins and essence of who the character is.

Goyer took some liberties in the storytelling that could be considered as unforgivable by many fans (Bruce's parents are originally killed after seeing "Mark of Zorro" at the movie theater, a fact that marks Bruce's mind with the idea of a masked vigilante) but also hints at stuff that the previous versions let pass unnoticed, the main focus of this film are the...
Flesh and Machinery
Christopher Nolan and his co-screenwriter, David Goyer have chosen to postpone the crossover of Bruce Wayne (a soulful Christian Bale) into Batman until half way through the new "Batman Begins."
And this is a crucial and important step that Nolan puts off until Bruce walks the earth in search of his own personal nirvana... in a sort of Christ-like journey to understand himself and his place in the world after his parents are brutally murdered. It is also from this quest that he acquires the knowledge and skills necessary for him to become a warrior, ready and able to combat the ills and rid his town Gotham of all evil-doers.
Nolan's "Batman Begins" is a more macho, masculine film than were the previous movies, which is not to take anything away from Tim Burton's elegiac, gothic and visionary takes on this story. But Burton's world is/was/ and will always be the world of the dreamer: his Batman is more sinned against than sinning. His Batman needs love and understanding...

All four seasons are finally here on DVD with plenty of extras. As noted elsewhere each season is packaged in one multi-disc set with a nice 4 page flyer listing the shows and actual presentation dates, as well as commentary on the season. Some here (and elsewhere) have complained about the pastboard briefcase that the full four season set is presented in, but I find it to be clever and handy. If you possibly can, buy all four seasons in one package rather than individually.

The transfers are quite good, much better than the vhs sets that were out many years back. The video and the audio is clean with few drop-outs or glitches noted (so far), but best of all the show holds up well. Those who loved it then will be entranced. Our children may find the show less amazing, as many of the gadgets envisioned then are really now in existence and the Bond series has so far surpassed the 1960's, but for those of us who were there, it is wonderful.

For any armchair U.N.C.L.E. agent from the 60's, these are an answer to a prayer - but, why not wish for the rest of the U.N.C.L.E. movies like "To Trap A Spy", "The Spy With My Face", and the others...

This type of item delivers overtake out prospect, that one has chaned into a wonderfull upgrade on myself personally, The thought came correctly along with rapidly Supernatural: Season 6

Review :
Amazing Series
I've always been a bit of a fan of action but not so much horror. Supernatural is the exception. Not only is it full of action and monsters of every kind you can think of, and a whole lot you've never heard of, but the plot line is brilliant and intriguing. The chemistry between this cast is excellent and the acting is such that you're engrossed from the opening to the credits. It's enough to believe that there really are two brothers fighting out there to keep "the evil sonuvabitches" out. I've even got a couple friends into the series. I recommend Supernatural to anyone. It's got an amazing storyline and characters, action, thrills, and humor that will never leave you bored.
The only BAD thing about the series is the strong attachment that one grows to the characters and the immediate urge to watch another episode.

Best Show on Television -- It has EVERYTHING!!
Supernatural is far and away the best show on television, and it has been since its inception in 2005. The awesome acting (by the superb Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki -- later joined brilliantly by Jim Beaver and Misha Collins) is, simply, out of this world (no cliche intended)! Put these wonderful actors together with great production values, writing that is some of the best ever done for television, directorial brilliance every week, and the viewer experiences totally absorbing wonder, chills, and delight.

Season 6 is everything I had hoped it would be, and if you haven't seen Dean vs. vampires and Tinkerbelles, Sam go darkside big time, Bobby handle a wood chipper, and Castiel learn the secrets of a pizza delivery man, then you are REALLY missing out!

I own every season on an Amazon-purchased DVD; they are the best, and I look forward to getting mine every year, including Season 6, which I just ordered, thank you! Long Live Supernatural, and may the...
Supernatural is Back in the Saddle Again.
I have been watching Supernatural since the show started in 2005. Its the only show on televison of its kind and it has become my all time favorite. Supernatural blends together seamlessly the sci-fi, horror genre with healthy amounts of drama and sarcastic comedy weaved in thats is very unique. The action is in my opinion feature film quality and the monsters this season are to die for ranging from djinns, to shape-shifters, vampires, faires, dragons, demons and the Mother of All baddies, Eve from Purgatory. We are still waiting to see how the Mother of All mystery continues to unfold, but so far its been wild.

In season six you will get to see Sam's dramatic struggle over his very soul while dealing with the introduction of the Campbell family. Dean's couragous attempts to help his brother while dealing with his own family drama with Lisa and Ben. The first episode directed by Jensen Ackles all about great supporting character Bobby Singer called Weekend at Bobbys...

Finally, proper special editions
This review is for the "Batman Anthology" set, where each movie is packaged in a new, 2-disc special edition. There is also an older, "Batman Legacy" set with the bare-bones editions, and Amazon seems to be grouping the two reviews together.

It's about time that Warner Home Video has finally given these superhero films the two disc, special-edition treatment they deserve. Each film comes with restored/enhanced video and audio, and all the special features one expects from a current dvd release these days; we get commentaries, archival music videos and trailers, making-of featurettes, interviews, retrospectives, and deleted scenes. The last bit will be of special interest to some fans, especially because the Batman Forever DVD finally includes those missing sequences we saw in the storybooks and trading cards (though they appear here in rough form). Also of interest to fans of the animated series is the abandoned "Robin sequence" from the original movie, where they got Kevin...
Good value, but the quality is terrible.
I'll admit that the price is cheap. Having all four films for less than $10 is great, but upon watching the first disc, I find that the quality of the transfer is absolutely terrible. Lots and lots of pixelation artifacts, especially when there's black on the screen, and let's face it, BATMAN was not a brightly lit film. The quality is barely, BAREly above VHS. I feel like they hooked a VCR up to a DVD recorder and had at it. I'm not even talking about grain (which I would expect from an older film transfer), but rather poor resolution. There are no solid diagonal lines, everything is blocky. The video looks like an SVCD that was poorly upconverted to DVD.

It's good value, if you're just looking for an affordable way to complete your collection, but if you're used to DVD-quality video, you will be disappointed...

Typical Warner home video release, just enough and crappy packaging
I bought this at Costco today -- this is as cheap as Warner can get, four BDs in a case designed for 2 with double-height spindles. So it LOOKS like you're getting 2 Blu-ray discs, but there are four.

That's it. Four discs. In a 2-disc case. Why, Warner, why??

As far as BATMAN and BATMAN RETURNS, all the extras from the two-disc Special Editions are here. Unfortunately, Warner couldn't care less about the quality of the transfers. Sure you can see more detail in these BD releases, but there's been no restoration. Matte lines are starting to show, and in the case of BATMAN, very clear sprocket hole wear in the master print results in the main title jumping considerably. Paired with Danny Elfman's soaring crescendo when the title appears, the crisp gold title jittering about is pretty disappointing.

I only bought this for the first two (Tim Burton) films, and at Costco the price was less than the two as individual releases. So no great loss, but still...

"I don't care if they come out with the deluxe 25th Anniversary 3D Super-BluRay Scratch 'n Sniff Edition, I'm not biting." --Me, 2010

Well hello again, folks, I guess it's time to eat my words. I was going to abstain from buying this new 25th Anniversary release, I really, really was. But then the rumors started. A new remastering of the film personally supervised by Martin Scorsese. A freshly remastered DTS-HD audio track. An anniversary screening at the Tribeca Film Festival to show off the movie's facelift. I scoffed. I grumbled.

And boy, was I wrong to do so.

This is the presentation of the film cinephiles have been wanting for years. Warner Brothers has produced a superlative Blu-ray (the original iconic poster design...
A suspect DVD release for a classic film.
GoodFellas is on top of my "best films of all time" list. I was one of the people who had bought the previous DVD edition, the infamous "two-sided, no features" release that had been one of the first generation of DVD releases, before the medium evolved into what it is today. I had been counting the days until they would re-release this film, so I was first in line to get this new edition.

Unfortunately, though this edition is much better than the previous one, it very much pales alongside most modern DVD packages.

The package aroused many suspicions in me that this was a rush job. Among my dissatisfactions:

- There's no booklet, leaflet, film histories, or printed material of any kind which generally supplements a two-disc release like this;

- The film is long, but still under the three-hour mark, and the second disc has three short (eight to 20 minutes), unremarkable documentaries plus a storyboard-film comparison. Wouldn't all this...
Good Blu-Ray Transfer
Goodfellas has long been one of my favorite movies. I've watched it many times since I saw it in the theater. I've seen it on tape, on laserdisc, on the original "flipper" DVD and the remastered anamorphic DVD, and now, Blu-Ray Disc.

I'm happy to report that the Blu-Ray is a significant improvement over the remastered DVD. The picture is brighter, the colors are more vivid, and many scenes have much more detail and clarity. Of course, the overall picture is much sharper.

Goodfellas is not the kind of movie that is a showcase for high-resolution video, however. It has a lot of dark indoor scenes; very little takes place outdoors (something I never noticed before). I noticed some graininess, which has a lot to do with how Scorcese shot the picture. It's just more noticeable in the higher resolution.

There are some minor problems with the audio in one scene. The dialogue drops in volume and then jumps back up in the following scene. Other than...

Review :
Great Trilogy--More awesome in Blu-ray
This is a great trilogy for Matrix fans made more fabulous in Blu-ray. I debated between the Complete Trilogy and the Ultimate Trilogy and I am glad I didn't choose the Ultimate because while I really enjoy watching the movies, I am just not into all the background information and video game that is included in the 10 disc Ultimate. I would recommend the Complete Trilogy for the casual Matrix fan who just enjoy the movies and don't want to be overloaded with the details.

Amazing Quality.
I've had this set for a couple days now and have watched all three films. The picture quality is outstanding and the sound is too (though I thought the SD soundtrack was amazing too, not a discriminating ear). There are so many things I never really noticed in the original SD DVD releases. For instance in the second film when Morpheus is giving his speach at Zion. In the HD version you can see him spitting when he talks. I saw a parody of this scene at the MTV movie awards that year and didn't get it. I guess you had to of seen it at the theater.

Some other things is the skin imperfections some of the actors have. I don't care about that sort of thing, but thought it was really cool to see people the way they really are. Also, I think HD and BR are going to change the way makup is applied for films. You can definately see some lipstick and blush on the male actors in a couple scenes. To make a long review shorter, buy the Matrix in High Definition. Even if you have BR it's...
I like the movies in this set....
but must admit I'm not a huge Matrix worshiper!! I bought this set for $21.30US, delivered from Amazon UK. It is an all region set. This set is perfect for me as "The Ultimate" would have been total overkill for a casual fan like myself. "Complete" has a light helping of extras.
The picture and sound on the blu-rays is incredible and will make a great addition to anyone's collection to be used as a demo for how great blu-ray sound and picture are.

Dukes of Hazzard: The Complete Fifth Season (DVD)

Just when you think you've seen it all in Hazzard County, the fun, rabble-rousing action-adventure series switches things up: Luke and Bo head off to compete on the professional stock car racing circuit, while their cousins Coy and Vance Duke (Byron Cherry and Christopher Mayer) take up residence at the Duke family farm. On the same right side of the law, the cousins find the General Lee's seats fit them just fine and, thanks to Boss Hogg's scheming ways, these two good old boys manage to get into just as much trouble as their cousins did. Plus, a familiar face returns this season as Deputy Enos Strate (Sonny Shroyer) rejoins the office of Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane (James Best) and his goofy underling, Deputy Cletus Hogg (Rick Hurst). So get ready for more car chases, moonshine hijinks and small-town brawls with The Dukes of Hazzard: The Complete Fifth Season!

]]>The Dukes of Hazzard: The Complete Fifth Season marks the ignominious year in which (gasp) Dukes mainstays Bo (John Schneider) and Luke (Tom Wopat) Duke took a hiatus from the series, the result of a contract feud between the two stars and the show's producers. That disagreement proved considerable: Schneider and Wopat stayed off Dukes for 18 of the season's 22 episodes. But while their absence puts a dent in the ongoing Dukes zaniness, replacement cousins Coy (Byron Cherry) and Vance (Christopher Mayer) Duke do an adequate job of filling the seats of the General Lee. The new boys are also on to the wily ways of Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke), who seems to be ratcheting up his brand of felonious mayhem, going so far as to rob banks and jewelry stores, swindle landowners, incite kidnapping, and plot payroll heists. Of course, he also spends half his time still trying to frame the Dukes for one thing or another, including feisty cousin Daisy (Catherine Bach) and grizzled Uncle Jesse (Denver Pyle)--Boss Hogg's former moonshine partner. And, yes, he's more intent than ever on grabbing the Dukes' property, along with everything else.

A familiar face returns in the fifth season: Deputy Enos Strate (Sonny Shroyer), gone from the series since 1980 but now rejoining the burlesque that is the office of Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane (James Best) and his goofy underling, Deputy Cletus Hogg (Rick Hurst). Season highlights include "The Revenge of Hughie Hogg," in which Boss Hogg's ever-scheming nephew (Jeff Altman) makes a return appearance, this time with his eye on defeating Roscoe in the latter's re-election bid for top lawman. (Hughie being Hughie, he blackmails his uncle into supporting his run.) "Ding, Dong, the Boss Is Dead" finds Coy and Vance actually helping Boss Hogg escape an old moonshine runner's certain revenge by staging their diminutive nemesis' funeral. "Comrade Duke" concerns a Russian gymnast who seeks asylum at the Dukes' farm. Bo and Luke return in time for a few adventures, capping the season with "Daisy's Shotgun Wedding," in which the overprotected beauty strikes out on her own and is snatched away by a moonshiner's son, who wants to marry her. --Tom Keogh

The Fifth Season is worthy!
Yes, 5 stars. There has simply never been another show on television like THE DUKES OF HAZZARD...and I doubt we will ever see something in its style again. But just because John Schneider and Tom Wopat ("Bo and Luke Duke") are absent on just about every episode of this season, doesn't mean that I will wait longer to purchase it.

In hindsight, the introduction of "Coy and Vance Duke" into the storyline wasn't the great disaster it was in 1982. Schneider and Wopat walk off the show to strike over issues related to merchandise royalties, and the show clamors to hire two new individuals to fill the huge gap. Granted, the replacement cousins were no Bo and Luke, but hey, the character of Coy (played by Byron Cherry) was quite likeable and down-home like, and the change in roles allowed the show to experiment a little.

Rick Hurst ("Deputy Cletus") stayed on the show as Sonny Shroyer ("Deputy Enos") returns from his failed spin-off series, and it's great that we have...
The Coy And Vance Season
This is the 5th installment of the Dukes Of Hazzard season series on dvd in which Bo And Luke Persue an oppurtinity of a life long dream to race the Nascar circuit (Actually a contract dispute with Warner Brothers) Enter Coy and Vance Duke to save the 5th Season from going down the toilet. I Have to admit that i'm more of a Bo And Luke fan myself but,if not for the Coy And Vance Episodes this season might have ended the running of the series. As for the Episodes they are actually pretty good and worth the purchase and would watch them several times each, The Season 5 package consists of 22 episodes on 8 dvd's with lots of extras & includes episodes #87 through #108 with Bo And Luke returning for the final 4 episodes of season 5 #105 through #108. Here below is the episode list for season 5 w/original airdates found on tvtome.com #87 The New Dukes 9/24/82 #88 Dukes Strike It Rich 10/1/82 #89 Lawman Of The Year 10/8/82 #90 Coy Meets Girl 10/15/82 #91 The Hazzardgate Tape 10/22/82...
ALL of the "Good Ol' Boys" Are Worth Owning, Especially at THIS Price Level!
Warner Bros. continues to do a GREAT job with these "The Dukes of Hazzard" season box sets. Each time the content and extras are great, the price point is VERY reasonable (especially now that the sets consist of 8-9 single-sided discs each) and the release schedule is surprisingly swift! As I'm sure all of you know, this is the season where Bo and Luke were temporarily replaced by Coy and Vance. I don't think anyone seriously thought that Warner would skip this season for fear of it being less popular for that very reason, but anyone who really was concerned about there being a gaping hole in their collection can now lay those fears to rest.

I remember seeing some of these episodes first-run, and as I recall there were some good ones thrown in the lot despite the absence of Schneider and Wopat. Besides, they both returned to the show for the last few episodes of the season, so it is not totally devoid of them. Any Coy and Vance haters had best remember that, as...

It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.

Review :
Epic conclusion to Nolan's Batman trilogy
Having been a huge fan of Chris Nolan's previous two Batman films, couldn't wait to watch this when it was released. And The Dark Knight Rises didn't disappoint. The conclusion to the trilogy is fitting for the franchise, for Batman, and for Bruce Wayne (though I have read rumors that Nolan might come back for another film in the series or maybe a Batman/Superman film - hope some of this is true!).

The film starts with a frail Bruce Wayne having pretty much retired and living a private life eight years after he eliminated the Joker. The peaceful Gotham City where police officers feel they will soon be "chasing overdue library books" is rocked by a series of events orchestrated by the ferocious and calculating villain, Bane.

The pace of this film is slightly slower (and heavier) compared to the previous two films, partly because there are a lot more characters in this film, and Nolan being the master storyteller that he is, gives each character enough time in the...
Couldnt wait to add this to my collection!!
I have been a huge Batman fan since I was a kid. From the comics, to the movies, to the cartoons and the games, but I absolutely loved this series the most. This series really hit the darker side of Batman and gave it a little more of a realistic touch. Batman The Dark Knight Rises, in my opinion, made Bane one of the scariest, most intense villains in any super hero movie I've seen in 2012. I think this movie did a great job ending this specific series, and even still it left me wanting more, but I was very satisfied with the ending. It was intense, fun, and even amusing at times. All around I think its a great movie, a great series and for me it was a definite buy! Hope everyone else can enjoy this movie/series as much as I did.

Very good but the first two are both better.
4 Stars. This was pretty damn good but it definitely had its problems. Bane's voice was almost impossible to make out most of the time. The addition of Catwoman was okay but nothing really extraordinary. There was very little screen time for Bale which he probably wasn't happy about so this really came off more like 'Bane and Robin' rather than 'Batman and Robin'. The biggest problem though is the first act.

It really drags and they could have lost about 10 or 15 minutes to tighten up the pace. Once the second act kicks in though, that's when the whole story becomes really engaging. It's awesome how Bane unintentionally 'recreates' Batman without knowing it. There is definitely some repetition of ideas from the first two which is probably why this is the last one but overall it is probably the darkest of the three. This is definitely better than the latest Spiderman.

The criticism about this third chapter not fitting in with the whole series could not be further...

Review :
The "General Lee" Fly Even Higher
Well what can I say "The Dukes Of Hazzard" Rules. I always wanted to have the complete 145 episodes and now I am so close to have them all with only the Seventh season left to be released.

Somthing changed for The General Lee in Season Six which is the use of miniatures for the stunt sequences, instead of actual cars allowing "The General Lee" to fly even higher even though it did not look exactly like the real thing, but I like it due to the fact that the "Chargers" are safe from destruction :)

The ratings improved over the previous season, but not to same level the series had enjoyed before the walkout of Schneider and Wopat.

The regular cast for season Six are:
John Schneider (Bo Duke)
Tom Wopat (Luke Duke)
Catherine Bach (Daisy Duke)
Denver Pyle (Uncle Jesse Duke)
Ben Jones (Cooter Davenport)
Sonny Shroyer (Enos Strate)
Sorrell Booke (Boss Jefferson Davis Hogg)
James Best (Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane)...
a family tradition
I grew up watching the Dukes when I was a girl in jr. high and high school. Our son, who was born with cerebral palsy and has been in a wheelchair all his life, started watching the Dukes reruns when he was 3 years old, and that was 21 years ago. He LOVED watching that General Lee fly through the air, and took a liking to Daisy too!

This past June, we made a lifelong dream of our son's come true. We took him down to Bristol Tennessee to the Dukesfest and he not only got to sit in the Gerneral Lee for a picture, but he met face to face with Roscoe, Bo Duke, Cooter, Cletis AND got two kisses on his cheeks from Daisy! Yes, the original cast! There was nothing in my life that was more special to me, than seeing the look on his face when he saw these idols of his right in front of him, talking to him, taking pictures with him!(except maybe when he met Brett Favre, but thats another story!)

You bet we are getting the 6th season of the Dukes to add to our collection...
A late series resurgence
When John Schneider and Tom Wopat walked off "The Dukes of Hazzard" at the start of the show's fifth season over a dispute with Warner Brothers, many thought the show would never recover. Schneider and Wopat were replaced by two actors (Byron Cherry and Christopher Mayer) who were forced to basically imitate the characters of Bo and Luke Duke, without making their own mark. The show marched on, and though it appeared to lose some of its luster, all that changed when Schneider and Wopat returned late in the fifth season for a royal Hazzard homecoming.

One of the disputes Schneider and Wopat were having with Warner was the lack of innovative or fresh scripts, and it appears that the writers took this into consideration when creating this, the sixth season, of "The Dukes of Hazzard." Several of the episodes deal with more mature topics (well, as mature as the "Dukes" show goes!), like 'A Boy's Best Friend,' which centers around the Duke boys coming to the aid of an orphan boy;...

Review :
Batfans rejoice! Warner Home Video got most of the tiny details right!
Well, this could have been a hack job and fans of the 60's Batman TV series wouldn't have minded much. We would have just been happy to have this series in any way possible.

But, I'm happy to report that Warner Brothers really spent the money and gave us fans the (mostly) definitive version of the series! It looks absolutely fantastic, and for hardcore fans of the Adam West's Batman, please read on.

Ever since this set was announced, many fans were wondering what it would contain. And while Amazon's description includes some of the details, it doesn't really get into the finer points.

Here's a list of what harcore fans of the series might care about:

1. Yes, the Batgirl presentation reel/pilot IS included! (This is the short, 10-minute film that was made to introduce the character to the network brass.). The picture quality of this film is not as good as the main series (with scratches and slightly faded color), but it looks better than...
If you only knew what it took to release this you'd stop complaining & show your gratitude for such an amazing release
I've read so many PRE-release reviews ranting about the price of this set. Well, if you don't like the cost, then enjoy your bootlegs and stop your b*tching, because no one's forcing you to buy it. Furthermore, if you take the time to read this....

http://www.wired.com/2014/11/batman-home-video-finally/

...you'll understand the frustrating yet compelling truth of the delay that mentions the thousands upon thousands of personal dollars a person spent in an effort to see this release. Otherwise, neither 20th nor DC/WB would have budged, and this page wouldn't exist for you brats to whine ceaselessly. Now, on to an actual review of the set.

I started with season one disc one, and from that first scene in Moldavia, I could not believe how rich, deep, and clear the colors, the sharpness of detail and the great labor taken to restore this to such high quality. Even the stock footage used in episodes appears fresh and pristine. All subsequent episodes viewed...
Complete, uncut, and visually stunning--previews shown at Comic-Con 2014
I attended the Comic-Con panel on July 24, 2014, which featured Adam West, Julie Newmar, and Burt Ward, as well as clips from the Blu-ray release and information on extras. I can confirm that the Limited Edition Blu-Ray will include never before seen photos, a Hot Wheels Batmobile, and several featurettes on the disks. The episodes themselves look gorgeous--scratches cleaned up, colors corrected, modest sharpening done. At the split screens showing the old TV broadcast vs. the new Blu-Ray, the improvements were stunning. This will be a "must-own" for physical media. Episodes will be complete and uncut. They even showed cameos by Dick Clark, the Green Hornet and Kato, and Bill Dana as José Jimenez. Fans will not be disappointed.

UPDATE:
Here's an update on the set after actual delivery:
The Blu-ray completely lives up to the picture quality shown at Comic-Con. Colors pop off the screen, the image is sharp with no annoying noise or grain, even in dark...
