Review :
VISUALLY BEAUTIFUL, ACTION FILLED, INTRIGUING PREMISE AND A MORAL CORE... SO HERE'S THE THING -
AN HONEST PROS AND CONS REVIEW FROM A FAN

This visually beautiful Sci-Fi is action filled with rather lofty goals and a moral core not always seen in action films today. Whether you like it or not may depend largely on whether you can appreciate some of its many facets while forgiving others. Each person may find different positives, but I felt the movie succeeded best in its stunning visuals and tremendous action choreography. I appreciated the underlying messages and wish they could have developed the concepts a little more deeply. The mythology is amazingly rich, but not fully tapped. This movie was much maligned by professional critics, so I hope those who love it will realize I am giving an impassioned defense while also providing an honest description to help those who will not like the movie make that determine as well.

THE PLOT (no spoilers): Jupiter Jones is the daughter of Russian immigrants from Petersburg. Her father had a fascination with...
I want to give this movie a little love. It is not a "great" movie
Jupiter Ascending. I want to give this movie a little love.

It is not a "great" movie, or possibly even a "good" movie, but it certainly isn't the "bad" movie a lot of critics (and about 1/2 of audiences watching it) are making it out to be. It is simply a "B" movie, with an A movie budget.

As a fan of "B" movies, I really enjoyed JA. However if you went in expecting an "A" movie, (with A movie, plot, characterization, and direction), I can see how you would have been disappointed.

If you like:
Lots of space ship chases (ala Star Wars an GofG)
Lots of fights (ala any action movie nowadays)
Repeated "last minute" rescues (aka Cliff-hangers literally)
Force shields and Blasters (instead of "the force" and light sabers)
Lizardmen, Dogmen, Mousemen, Androids, Elephantmen (ala Flash Gordon)
Lots of CGI, cool space ships, and gadgets
Baroque spaceships and...
Much better than you've been led to believe
The producers of this film shot themselves in the foot, twice. It was supposed to be released in the summer (where it belonged) & then pulled it & set it for a February release leaving the pundits to speculate that there had to be something wrong with the film. Strike one. Next the producers gave a unannounced sneak preview of the film at the Sundance Film Festival. That was like showing a new model Chevrolet at a Maserati - Ferrari -Lambergini car show. No matter how good the Chevy is it's not going to be appreciated by those car buyers. So now we had endless articles about how the Sundance audience hated "Jupiter" and some audience members walked out in the middle of the showing. Well, dah, what else would you expect? Strike two. The word was out, "Jupiter" was rotten. If I read that once on the internet I read it half a dozen times before it even opened in theatres. I wanted to see the film anyway (not trusting the film critics as far as I could throw them). I likes...
